Saturday Work!
We stopped by the house to check out the floor stains again (and for Peter to see them in person) and there is a lot of work going on for a Saturday! There are guys working out front on the columns of the front of the house and installing the decking. I also see a tile truck out front, so it's a hubbub of activity.

Bathroom Sneak Peek!
While I was at the house today snapping a picture of the hardwood stain samples, I heard some tinkering downstairs in the basement. I followed the noises and found a nice man working solo on THIS!:
It's the basement bathroom! I love it! I am honestly not sure how far along the process is-is there grout? Is there not? I snapped the picture and ran away like a giddy mess. I can't wait to go back and see if it's finished. I have a tile walk through on Monday to go over some of the more detailed areas, like the master bath and the jack & jill bath. The jack & jill bath isn't that complicated, but when some pretty, but pretty basic, subway tile costs you $17/sf, I think they want to make it right!
Stay tuned!
Added: Ok, so I am pretty sure it's not grouted. And I am pretty sure that I spec'ed really white grout. I am hoping that it still looks great. I thought I was a fine of the clean look, but I feel like the slightly dark spaces between the tile make it more unique. Oh well, guess we'll see!

Hardwoods are in with stain samples!
Well, the title pretty much says it all! I ran into the house today to take a quick peek at the stain samples and snapped a pictures so I could mull over the options. We decided we want dark floors a while ago..I just love the look and even though they show more dirt and are harder to maintain, I must have them! It's pretty hard to obsess about stain samples online-the little swatch only shows you so much-so it was very exciting to see the stains on the floor. Several friends had recommended Jacobean, so that was definitely going to be thrown in there as an option, but I also really liked the colors from Sherwin Williams.
Here are all four we chose down on the floor (in addition to a color that the floor person put on there for no reason at all):
The top two are from Minwax:
The bottom two are Sherwin Williams:
I am so, so glad that I looked at the Sherwin Williams stains. I like them so much more--initially. Who knows, maybe once I stew a little I'll change my mind. I love the Ranch Oak (and the name!), but I am not sure we're committed to going quite so dark.
Here's a sneak peek at some of the rooms with the floors down...

All the work is being done on the inside!
So I knew that eventually this day would come. I can no longer show you progress with my drive by shots! Since I posted, Dominion Power turned on the power, the drywall was installed and currently, the hardwoods are being installed. I tried to go in today to take a quick shot of the floors, but in more developments, they've started locking the house!
In the meantime, here is a shot of the choices for the exterior color:
We'll have to keep you guessing on which one we've decided on.
Some interior shots to come-I promise!
